Fire Prevention Week

October 4th through 10th is Fire Prevention Week. This week, Edison Insurance Company encourages you to learn ways to protect you, your family, and your home, from a devastating house fire.

Smoke alarms are a crucial part of your home fire escape plan, and according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), functioning smoke alarms located throughout your home can cut the chances of dying or being severely injured in a home fire in half. The NFPA also reports a majority of home fire deaths occur during hours when most people are sleeping. This is why installing smoke alarms on the inside and outside of each bedroom in your home is the theme of this year's Fire Prevention Week.

Continue to make your fire prevention week a success by following these smoke alarm safety tips below:

  • Interconnect your smoke alarms. When one sounds, they all should sound.
  • Test all the smoke alarms in your home at least once a month. Test them by pressing their test button.
  • Replace your smoke alarms every 10 years.
